This committee allows Ngāti Pāoa Iwi Trust and the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board to manage the Ōmaru Recreational Reserve.
Ōmaru Recreational Reserve
Ōmaru is the traditional name for the area covering the Point England (Kaino) Reserve.
As part of the treaty settlement under the Ngāti Pāoa Claims Settlement Bill:
- the Crown will return 40.6 hectares of land at Ōmaru / Point England to Ngāti Pāoa ownership
- the land will be called Ōmaru Recreational Reserve.
We expect the bill to pass in 2025.
The public can continue to use the reserve.
Committee responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- all functions, duties and responsibilities necessary to manage the reserve
- developing and adopting a reserve management plan
- monitoring progress of the plan and the effect of changes made to the land
- ensuring maintenance works are carried out according to the plan.
The Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Reserve Management Plan will set out how to manage:
- public activities on the reserve
- ecological rehabilitation of Ōmaru Stream
- improvements to the public sports fields and recreational facilities.
Committee members
The committee will be made up of:
- three members from the Ngāti Pāoa Iwi Trust
- three members from the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board.
Meetings of the Ōmaru Joint Management Committee
The committee will meet at least twice a year.
