What you need to register as an Independent Qualified Person (IQP)
Before you register as an Independent Qualified Person (IQP), make sure you have all the required documents and information. This will make it easier for you to complete registration.
Documents you will need
We need to see many documents, so it is best if you prepare these before you apply.
Work history or CV and three references
Along with your work history or CV, we need three referees familiar with your:
- profile
- standard of performance
- competence for each specified system.
One reference can come from your current organisation.
Professional memberships and licenses
We need to see copies of your professional memberships and any registration or licenses you currently hold or have previously held.
Qualifications for each specified system
This could include:
- copies of your qualification certificates
- details of any ongoing education, including recent professional courses you have attended.
The documentation should confirm your knowledge of:
- the Building Act 2004 and any recent amendments
- regulations
- relevant statutory forms
- building and compliance code.
Supporting documents for each specified system
You will need to attach copies of various supporting documents for each specified system with correct reference to:
- relevant standards
- frequency of inspections
- how the inspection is undertaken.
Procedures and inspection sheets must demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the Building Act 2004, the Building Code, the Compliance Schedule Handbook and other relevant regulations.
Supporting documents could include:
- form 12A (including company logo and contact details)
- report or letter in lieu (including company logo and contact details)
- defect report or letter to owner (if you cannot provide a form 12A)
- inspection sheets (listing performance standards, frequency of inspections and instructions to undertake the inspection) for each specified system
- test certificates showing backflow prevention (including company logo and contact details).
Photo of yourself
You need to supply a recent photo of yourself for a new IQP membership card.
The image should be like a passport photo. It must:
- show your face, head and shoulders with your head filling most of the photo
- be against a light-coloured background (not white or dark) with no background shadows.
You can only upload one image in JPEG (.jpg) format for this section.
Your insurance certificate
We need a copy of your insurance certificate that clearly shows the:
- period you are covered for
- type of cover
- expiry date or your insurance cover.
Public (broadform) liability or professional indemnity must have adequate cover for the work undertaken.
For this section, you can upload a maximum of three files, up to 10MB each, in PDF format.
