Our aim with community recycling centres is to reduce waste to landfill by reusing, re-purposing and recycling as much as possible.
What are community recycling centres?
Community recycling centres are facilities where you can drop off unwanted items and materials for reuse and recycling. Using these centres supports your community as profits are reinvested locally.
At most centres, you can:
- donate or recycle household goods, building materials, electronic waste and other items
- shop for bargains on quality second-hand items and eco-friendly products
- learn and connect through zero-waste workshops, repair cafés and educational tours.
These centres:
- make it easy to recycle and reuse unwanted items
- help communities turn waste into valuable resources
- divert resources from landfill
- help reduce carbon emissions
- create local jobs and training opportunities
- build a 'circular economy' by reusing, repairing and recycling items instead of throwing them away.
There are currently 15 centres across Auckland with more planned.
What you can drop off at community recycling centres
Each community recycling centre is different in what services they offer and the types of items they accept.
Items the centres might accept include:
- fridges
- furniture
- lawnmowers
- bicycles
- books
- timber
- household bric-a-brac.
Some centres also accept green waste and general rubbish.
