Our Water Future

Get involved with shaping Auckland's water strategy.

Why we need a water strategy

Clean, healthy water is essential to Auckland's future, but we haven't always looked after the water that makes Tāmaki Makaurau so special.

Creating a clear water strategy will help us ensure that all our decisions and investments will contribute to improving the health of our waters.

How we are developing this strategy

We have developed a discussion document around water in partnership with Watercare, Auckland Transport and Panuku Development.

This document outlines the current situation, and suggests a vision, values, and four big issues we’d like to tackle.

We hope to develop a strategy by 2022.

Our Water Future

We are currently developing our policy for water in Auckland from feedback received during a recent consultation.

For the latest information on the consultation process and outcome, see Our Water Future: Auckland's water discussion page.

Our current work for a better water future

The outcome of the consultation will direct the types of projects we deliver in the future. In the meantime, we are working on a number of projects across Auckland to improve water quality.

This work includes physical works on pipes and ponds, but it also includes research and local projects with community groups and mana whenua.

You can view a map of current initiatives and see what we're doing to improve water quality in your area.
