Track closures in the Hunua Ranges

We have closed a number of tracks in the Hunua Ranges to prevent the spread of kauri dieback.

High-risk tracks

We have closed several high-risk tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park to prevent the spread of kauri dieback.

They are:

  • Cossey Wairoa Track
  • Lower Mangatāwhiri Track
  • Lower Workman Track
  • Lower Link Track
  • Upper Link Track
  • Mangatangi Trig Track
  • Mangatangi Ridge Track
  • Waharau Ridge Track
  • Whakatīwai Ridge Track
  • Whakatīwai Road Track.

Two other tracks have been partially closed:

  • Kohukohunui Track — partial closure on the eastern side from Kohukohunui Trig Track junction
  • Mangatangi Ridge Track.

Track maintenance and improvements

Some tracks are closed while we make improvements to them. Dates are weather dependent and subject to change:

  • Tuesday 17 December – Hunua Falls carpark will be closed for helicopter operations. The carpark will reopen at 5.00 pm. Access to Kokako Lodge will still be available on that day.
  • From 19 August to 20 December 2019 – Massey Track (which is a section of Cossey Loop) is closed.
