Portable signs cannot be put on certain roads and public squares in the CBD or city centre zone. Consideration must be given to pedestrian access, particularly for the visually-impaired.
Freestanding signs are fixed on or into the ground and stands on their own. They must be located on private land.
Veranda signs may only advertise products, services, goods or events taking place on the premises they are located on. You cannot put signs on top of a veranda.
Wall mounted signs are attached to, painted onto, or projecting beyond the face of a wall, fence or building.
For window sign allowances, check the unitary plan Built Environment to see if the site has a key retail frontage overlay.
Rules relating to signs that were approved under an old bylaw, previous council, exemption, permit or resource consent.
