Our local board plan is a three-year strategic plan that guides local board activity, funding and investment decisions. It also influences local board input into regional strategies and plans, including the Auckland Plan (the 30-year vision for Auckland), our 10-year Budget (long-term plan) and the annual budgets.

The local board agreement sets out the local board's budget and funding for activities and performance measures for the financial year.

Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board – Joint CCO Engagement Plan 2021-2022
This plan outlines how Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board and council-controlled organisations (CCOs) will work together on community priorities.
The CCOs include:
- Auckland Transport
- Tātaki Auckland Unlimited
- Eke Panuku Development (now disestablished)
- Watercare
This plan also creates a framework for reporting progress.

Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board Emergency Readiness Plan
In August 2025, the Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board adopted the Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board Emergency Readiness Plan.
Auckland Emergency Management developed this plan with feedback from the wider community and the Aotea/Great Barrier Emergency Response Team.
The plan gives people who live in or visit the Aotea/Great Barrier area advice and information about:
- local hazards
- preparing for emergencies
- responding during emergencies.

- how to prepare for an emergency
- what you and your family should do in an emergency
- who to contact and where to go for information or assistance
- how to respond to different hazards in your area.
Aotea crayfish (kōura) management
In July 2025, Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board commissioned an investigation into the management of Aotea crayfish (kōura) fishery due to a decline in population.
Aotea/Great Barrier Local Board also did a community survey. The public feedback showed strong support for rules to protect lobster populations.
In early November 2025, mana whenua and the local board co-signed a proposal for the management of Aotea crayfish (kōura) fishery and submitted it to central government.

Feasibility studies
The local board commissioned AoteaOra Community Trust to complete feasibility studies on the development of a micro abattoir on Aotea / Great Barrier Island and establishment of a social housing provision to serve Aotea / Great Barrier Island.
Aotea / Great Barrier Island Ecology Vision
The Great Barrier Island Ecology Vision project was developed to establish community agreement on the ecological future of Great Barrier Island.
This report presents the ecology vision for the island.

This report outlines the results of the Aotea / Great Barrier Island Sustainability Stocktake questionnaire that was undertaken during January-February 2015.
Voluntary fishing code report
This report summarises the findings of the public survey into a proposed Voluntary Fishing Code for Aotea / Great Barrier Island.
It contains the board supported Voluntary Fishing Code for Great Barrier Waters.
Faecal Source Investigation report
This report summarises likely sources of faecal contamination in three streams within the Tryphena catchment; Blackwell Stream, Mulberry Grove Stream and Garden Road Stream.

The Tryphena on-site wastewater education programme outlines concerns about poor water quality in the Tryphena catchment.
