We publish online exhibitions to showcase items from our collections and to commemorate events within Auckland.

Flushed out – The secrets of the public toilet

This exhibition looks at some historic and contemporary toilets managed by Auckland Council.

Women's Suffrage and local government

To mark the 125th anniversary of women's suffrage in New Zealand, this online timeline features the female elected representatives of the former borough, city, county, regional and district councils of the Auckland region.

Virtual tours of council chambers

In this exhibit, you can take virtual tours of the legacy council chambers of Franklin District Council, Papakura District Council, Auckland Regional Council, North Shore City Council, Waitākere City Council and Rodney District Council. There are also tours of the previous Waitākere City Council chamber and the Devonport Borough Council chamber.

Alongside the tours are floor plans, aerials and a brief history of the property.

The Commonwealth and British Empire Games

This online exhibition looks at the times Auckland has hosted the games and contains interesting samples from our Auckland Council Archives collection.

Devonport houses

The photographs in this exhibition were taken as part of a review of the North Shore Heritage Inventory for North Shore City Council in 1994.

Nearly 70 per cent of the houses have been identified and we are requesting assistance from the public to identify the rest.

Key motorway junctions of Auckland 1940-2017

This online exhibition uses historical aerial photographs from the Auckland Council Archives collection, together with images from our GeoMaps mapping service, to show the development of key motorway junctions in the Auckland isthmus.

Timeline of Auckland mayors

This timeline features images and descriptions of the mayors and chairs of the former borough, city, county, regional and district councils of the Auckland region.

Mayoral chains of the Auckland region

This exhibition features images and descriptions of the mayoral chains that were worn by the mayors of many of the former councils in the Auckland region.

Images of various mayors wearing the chains are also included.

World War I exhibition and timeline

To commemorate the centenary of the First World War, we have developed an online exhibition and timeline featuring material from the Auckland Council Archives collections.

The exhibition focuses on local authority activities during and after the war, including involvement in relief funds, provisions for returned soldiers, commemorative events and the construction and placement of war memorials.

The timeline features excerpts from the official minute books of those local authorities in existence in the Auckland region during the First World War, to provide an insight into how Auckland reacted and contributed to the war effort.

The timeline will be added to for each year of the commemorations (2014-2019).

This exhibition features images and descriptions of records held in the Auckland Council Archives collections which provide insight into how Auckland's waterways have developed and been used over time for travel, trade and recreation.

This exhibition displays a selection of content relating to Auckland in 1913 from Auckland Council Archives collections.

The records featured provide a snapshot into life and developments within the region one hundred years ago.

Auckland Zoo: 90 Year Anniversary

This exhibition celebrates the 90 year anniversary of Auckland Zoo.

It features a selection of content regarding the establishment and early development of the zoo from Auckland Council Archives collections.
