A Certificate of Work (CoW) is a memorandum that you need to provide with a building consent or amendment application, if your design includes Restricted Building Work (RBW).
Submit the CoW together with your building consent application if it includes RBW.
The CoW must be completed and signed by the designer, licensed building practitioner (designer LBP), registered architect or chartered professional engineer.
The LBP have to demonstrate in the certificate of work, that RBW complies with the relevant clauses in the New Zealand Building Code and Standards.
If you apply for an amendment that affects RBW, you will also need to supply a revised CoW.
Refer to the Certificate of Design Work example below for help.
If your building project includes restricted building work and you have not included the CoW in your application, we may send the application back.
