Workman campground at Hunua Ranges Regional Park

COVID-19 Alert Level 2 – Accommodation information

Holiday parks and the Waiheke Backpackers Hostel are open for bookings with COVID-19 alert level measures and protocols in place.

Baches, campgrounds and lodges are open from 10am Monday 8 March 2021.

We will be reinstating our standard cancellation and amendment rules under Alert Level 2. Customers wishing to cancel or amend can do so online via their MyAuckland accounts.

Customers who have not started their planned stay over Alert Level 3 (28 Feb-6 Mar 2021 inclusive) that have not amended or cancelled these bookings will require a manual refund for the nights affected, and we will advise if details are required.

Beautiful bush clad ranges with streams, waterfalls and magnificent vistas.

There is a shelter with a roof and sides, and metal (gravel) floor.

Campground is an open grassed area.


Park closed from Thursday 15 September 2022 until further notice

Hunua Ranges Regional Park is closed to the public from Thursday 15 September 2022 until further notice for:

  • aerial pest control application of 1080 bait and
  • track and road maintenance.

Signage will be removed and gates opened once works are complete.

Important information
  • Please read and follow all park safety signage during this time.
  • The toxic bait is dyed green.
  • 1080 pellets are toxic to animals.
  • If you think your dog has eaten the poison, induce vomiting and consult a vet immediately.
  • Dogs and other animals should not enter the park for six months after bait application.
Closed track

The Cossey Gorge Track (northern section of the Cossey-Massey loop only) will be closed from 10 May until 30 September 2022 for track maintenance and improvements.

We have closed large sections of the Hunua Ranges to prevent the spread of kauri dieback.

When you visit our parks, you need to clean your footwear and equipment to avoid transferring disease from one area to another.

Directions and access

Start at Waharau Regional Park. Take the Waharau Ridge Loop and walk 7.5km. Follow the Waharau Ridge Track then the Workman Track. Recommend for experienced trampers only.
