Auckland Council Vote Auckland

Te tukanga mō te kopou tāngata i raro i te ringa āwhina

Assisted nomination process

You can get help to run as a candidate in the local elections if you are unable to complete the documents unassisted.

Nomination period

The nomination period to become a candidate in the local elections is from Friday 15 July to 12 noon Friday 12 August 2022.

How to get help with nomination documents

If you are eligible to be a candidate and need help to complete your nomination documents, you can request assistance from us. Just call the Electoral Office on 09 973 5212 or 0800 922 822 to arrange an appointment.

You should know

This service is available for people who cannot complete a nomination document independently.

If you want to be nominated, two nominators (two electors within the area you want to represent) will need to have completed their part of the nomination paper or will need to be present at the appointment.

You need to lodge all nomination material together:
  • nomination paper
  • candidate profile statement
  • photograph (if provided)
  • nomination deposit (or proof of nomination deposit).

When you can book an appointment

You can book an appointment for help with the nomination process from Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm.

We will consider same-day appointments but we prefer 24 hours' notice when possible.

What happens when you call us to book an appointment

During the initial phone call, we will ask for:

  • your contact details
  • your preferred appointment time
  • your preferred appointment location.

Your appointment can be held at a council venue, such as a library or community centre.

We will be in touch to confirm the appointment time and venue.
