Assisted voting process

You can get help with voting if you are unable to complete your voting documents unassisted.

How to get assistance with voting

If you are an eligible voter and need assistance with voting or to complete your voting documents, you can call the Electoral Office on 09 973 5212 or 0800 922 822 to arrange an appointment for assistance.

You should know

This service is available only for people who cannot complete a postal vote independently.

When you can book an appointment

You can book an appointment for assistance with the voting process from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 3pm.

We will consider same day appointments but we prefer 24 hours' notice when possible.

What happens when you call us to book an appointment

During the initial phone call, we will ask for:

  • your contact details
  • your enrolment status (you can check your enrolment status with the Electoral Commission or online at
  • your preferred appointment time
  • your preferred appointment location.

Your appointment can be held at a council venue, such as a library or community centre.

We will be in touch to confirm the appointment time and venue.
