Transitional property rates grants

What are transitional property rates grants?

In 2017/2018 properties in some parts of Auckland could apply for a property rates relief under legacy rates remission or postponement schemes.

The transitional property rates grants replace many property rates remission or postponement schemes.

To minimise the impact on the existing recipients of these schemes, we will provide transitional property rates grants for three years.

Changes to support for natural heritage, community organisations, sporting facilities and commercial properties on Great Barrier Island

Over the next three years, we will develop a consistent means of providing support for:

  • community organisations and sporting facilities
  • properties with land protected for natural or historic heritage
  • commercial properties on Great Barrier Island.

As the first step to regional consistency, we no longer offer legacy rates remission schemes or rates postponement for commercial properties on Great Barrier Island.

Eligibility for transitional property rates grants

These grants are available automatically on the same terms offered under the legacy remission or postponement scheme.

We will contact you by letter if you are eligible for the transitional property rates grant.

We will ask for community feedback on whether we should provide support for natural heritage, community organisations and sporting facilities.

We will keep recipients of transitional property rates grants informed on your future options for support once the review is complete.

An organisation will be eligible for a transitional property rates grant for the rating years 2018/2019 through to 2020/2021 if the applicant meets the criteria.
