The food scrap collection service includes a:
Food scraps collections are currently available only in urban Papakura and selected streets in Takapuna, Northcote and Milford.
Food scraps collections will be rolled out in stages across mainland urban Auckland throughout 2023. See Find start dates and more information on food scraps collections.
How to keep your food scraps bin clean
- Use an Auckland Council compostable bin liner for your kitchen caddy or wrap your food scraps in newspaper.
- You can also line your kitchen caddy and kerbside bin with paper bags, newspaper, or a paper towel to soak up any liquid. Do not use plastic bags.
- Store your food scraps in the fridge or freezer if you are not emptying them to your kitchen caddy after most meals.
- Rinse your kerbside bin regularly to avoid smells.

Food scrap compostable bin liners
You can use an Auckland Council compostable bin liner in your food scraps kitchen caddy to help remove odours and keep them clean.
Our compostable bin liners are not compulsory. However, if you want to use a bin liner, only Auckland Council bin liners are accepted.
Alternatively, you can line your caddy or food scraps bin with paper bags, newspaper or paper towels.
The colour of our bin liner has changed from green to pink. The new pink bin liners come in rolls of 20.
