Food scraps collection bins

The food scrap collection service includes a:
  • 23-litre bin for all household food scraps

  • 6-litre kitchen caddy for your kitchen to collect food scraps.

Food scraps collections are currently available only in urban Papakura and selected streets in Takapuna, Northcote and Milford.

Food scraps collections will be rolled out in stages across mainland urban Auckland throughout 2023. See Start dates for food scraps collection rollout for more information.

How to keep your food scraps bin clean

  • Use an Auckland Council bin liner for your kitchen caddy or wrap your food scraps in newspaper.
  • You can also line your kitchen caddy and kerbside bin with paper bags, newspaper, or a paper towel to soak up any liquid. Do not use plastic bags.
  • Store your food scraps in the fridge or freezer if you are not emptying them to your kitchen caddy after most meals.
  • Rinse your kerbside bin regularly to avoid smells.
