The closing date for property rate rebates for the 2025/2026 financial year is 30 June 2026.
Submit your completed application early to avoid missing the closing date.
It can take up to two months to process a rebate if you submit an application between August and November, or between April and June.
If you have previously received a property rates rebate, you will receive a property rates rebate application form and guide in early August with your property rates bill.

The maximum rates rebate is $805.
You will need to provide us with your total household income. This is the amount that you and any spouse, partner or joint home owner who lives with you, earned before tax.

You may still be eligible for a rebate even if you earn more than the income threshold.
Additional income allowance for dependents is $500 per dependent.
You will need to provide evidence of income to assess your eligibility and the amount of your rates rebate. You must have lived in your property from the start of the rating year 1 July 2025.
The executor or administrator of an estate may apply for a rebate where the deceased person met the normal criteria but died within the current rating year. The executor must provide documentation confirming they are responsible for the estate.
Water rates are included in the calculation. We will fill in water rates amounts for all areas except the former Papakura District Council area.
If you live in Papakura you need to request water rates information for the last 12 months (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025) from Veolia Water.

Bring your completed property rates rebate application form with supporting documents into any Auckland Council library.
You need to provide all requested information so we can calculate your rebate. We will return incomplete applications.
It will take about 15 working days to process your application. During busy periods, it can take up to two months. Busy periods are normally August to November and April to June.
We will not process your property rate rebate application in time to cover your first quarterly instalment. To avoid a penalty, you need to pay the first instalment.
We will write to you to let you know if your application is successful, and the amount of your rebate.
We will credit the rebate amount to your property rates account once we process and approve your application.
We will let you know how much you have left to pay on your next property rates notice.

Start by reading all the sections in the form.
You can leave Section 5 blank, unless you live in Papakura and get water supplied to you from Veolia, or you are under a body corporate agreement. In these two cases, you need to fill in your water rates details.
The rates rebate eligibility chart is not accurate unless you combine the totals of your council rates and water rates payments.
If you list your income as ‘zero’, you need to explain how you are paying bills.
For each dependent that you list, you will need to provide details of any benefits received.
You can get your proof of income from WINZ or IRD. (Income means money received before tax.)
